In a sense the most important piece in this
category is the "St. Louis Grand March", the first piece
of music published west of the Mississippi River. The illustrated
title page (by an Eastern lithographer) is impressive. But so are
most of the title pages in this section, which represent mainly the
home guards of individual American cities, the majority from the
northeast. There are several lovely views of Philadelphia. One of
the Baltimore pieces is particularly striking. Other regiments or
companies depicted are from Richmond, Savannah, Louisville and San
Francisco.
